Sun Yat-sen,an outstanding patriot and national hero, and great forerunner of Chinese democratic revolution, was born on November 12,1866,in Cuiheng Village,Xiangshan County(now Zhongshan City),Guangdong Province. His given name was Wen,alias Deming, and pseudonym Rixin, which was later changed into Yixian. He got the name Yat-sen because he once used Yat-sen Jiao as an assumed name when staying in Japan.Since he founded the Xing Zhong Hui(The Society to Restore China's Prosperity)in 1894,Sun Yet-sen plunged into the struggles against imperialism and feudalism. At home and abroad,he united various forces, established revolutionary organizations, did publicity work and led uprisings. He raised the Three People's Principles(Nationalism,Democracy and the People's Livelihood),held high the banner of national independence and democratic revolution, founded and led the Chinese Revolutionary League, and pioneered the Chinese modern time's national and revolution in its full sense.Led by Sun Yet-sen and influenced by his revolutionary spirit, the Revolution of 1911 broke out, overthrowing the Qing Dynasty, thus putting an end to the 2,000-year-long feudal monarchy in China, marking the beginning of a new chapter of progress and development. This is Sun Yat-sen's greatest contribution to Chinese people and Chinese nation. He pursued truth and marched with the times all his life. When he realized the significant impact of May Fourth Movement and the founding of the Communist Party of China to Chinese revolution,he resolutely implemented the Three Great Policies of alliance with Soviet Russia, alliance with the Communist Party and assistance to the workers and peasants, thus imbuing new meaning in the Three People's Principles. The Three Great Policies were Sun Yet-sen's important political view, based on which the democratic revolution initiated by him embarked on a right way from repeated setbacks to victory and to remarkable achievements.Sun Yet-sen unswervingly defended the national unification. He devoted all his life to the national independence, democracy and freedom, people's livelihood and happiness,to the realizaion of national unification and rejuvenation. He left us precious spiritual legacy, including enterprising spirit of pursuing truth, unswerving patriotic thoughts, broad and open mind, strong willpower of struggling to the very end,and noble character of giving his all till his heart ceased to beat.
