Background Informations:
On 23 December 2006, the State Post Bureau issued a one-piece
set of commemorative stamp, entitled "The Centenary of the Birth of Comrade Ulanhu", with a total face value of 1.2yuan.The picture on the stamp are named "The Centenary of the Birth of Comrade Ulanhu".
Ulanhu(1906-1988),a native of Mongolia,was an outstanding Party and state leader,proletarian revolutionary,a prominent leader in charge of ethnic affairs.He devoted his whole life to China's democratic revolution,socialist revolution and construction,the Party's work on ethnic affairs and study of theory concerning ethnic groups and consolidating national unity.Ulanhu was born at Tabusai Village in Tumote Left Banner,Hohhot,Lnner Mongolia.When still a teenager,Ulanhu took active part in anti-imperialist and patriotic movements of students.During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression(1937-1945),Ulanhu organized the first anti-Japanese armed force in lnner Mongolia and waged guerrilla unity and assumed the office of governor of the government of lnner Mongolia Autonomous Region,the first national autonomous region of China.During China's War of Liberation(1946-1949),his appropriate solution to problems concerning religious freedom contributed to the political,economic,military and cultural development of lnner Mongolia.From 1981 to 1984,Ulanhu took charge of drafting the first Law on Regional Ethnic Autonomy of the People's Republic of China.After the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949,he served as Governor of the People's Government of the lnner Mongolia Autonomous Region,Commander and Political Commissar of the Military Area Command of the lnner Mongolia Military Region,Vice-Premier of the State Council and concurrently Minister of the Ethnic Affairs Commission,President of the Central University for Nationalities,member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China(CPC),Director of the United Front Work Department of CPC,Vice-Chairman of the Chinese People'Political Consultative Conference,Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress,and Vice-President of the People's Republic of China.He was conferred the rank of general and the first-rank Liberation Medal in 1955.
