Rat's dexterity is shown in two aspects: agile movement and intelligent mind. Rat has an acute olfaction. It is timid, overcautions and very agile. With these characteristics, they are used in phrases to describe people's shrewdness, such as "to be more astute than Rat." Rat is also thought to be able to predict good and bad luck and disasters. In people's mind, they have even become a supernatural creature. In addition, Rat has a high rate of reproduction, a high rate of survival and a long life span. In this sense, the other animals can't rival with Rat.
