On May 20, 2008 China National Philatelic Corporation issued a first-day cover carrying a semi-postal stamp, "Earthquake Rescue and Relief in Great Unity", with a face value of 1.20 yuan plus 1.00 yuan as attached donation.
At 2:28 pm on May 12, 2008, an extremely strong earthquake jolted Wenchuan, Sichuan Province. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council attached high importance to the disaster and took prompt measures to rescue the injured and guarantee the life safety of people in the disaster areas. The People's Liberation Army, Armed Police Force, medical and health workers and other rescue forces from all quarters of the country rushed to the disaster areas.
