The 40th Annivesary of the Establishment of the Jing Gangshan Revolutionary Base

The serial number of this set of stamps is "W5", the name is"To Mark the 40th Annivesary of the Establishment of Jing Gangshan Revolutionary Base by Chairman Mao", the date of issue is October 1,1967, the values in set is 4, the denomination of each is 8 Fen, the printing process is gravure. The picture in the first stamp is Chairman Mao and Lin Biao on the rostrum of Tian An Men. The picture in the second stamp is Chairman Mao and his party join forces in Jing gang Shan. The third is a quotation from Chairman Mao: "The political power comes from guns".The forth is a verse by Chairman Mao.

October 1927, Chairman Mao and his "Autumn Harvest Army"got to Jing Gangshan and joined forces there with Zhu De and his "Insurrection Army of August 1, Nan Chang", therefore established the Jing Gangshan Revolutionary Base. From this event, Chinese People embarked on the road of " surrounding cities with villages and taking over the political power with armed forces". The establishment of Jing Gangshan Revolutionary Base is a turning point of great significance in China's revolutionary history. In 1967, to mark the 40th annivesary of the establishment of Jing gangshan revolutionary base by Chairman Mao, The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of China scheduled to issue a set of stamps. In June, designers started to work on it; in August, with the approval of the Central Authorities, the Printing House made plates and printed out specimen. When they were to be officially printed out, the printing House received a notice from its superior unit that the issue of "the 40th Anniversary of the establishment of Jing gangshan Revolutionary Base" must be cancelled and the specimen must be destroyed. In the process of destroying the specimen, an extrmely small amount went to private possessions, so they are very precious.

In November 21, 1997, Beijing You Xing Co. Ltd.held an auction in Shanghai, one piece of "To Mark the 40th Annivesary of the Establishment of Jing Gangshan Revolutionary Base" showed up in the auction, it was a good item and the start price was 1.5 million RMB.
