R2 "4000 Yuan"

R2 "4000 Yuan"---on March 11, 1950, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication decided to issue regular stamps with the picture of Tian An Men ( second edition ). The values in set are 4, the pictures of stamps include the Rostrum of Tian An Men and the ornamental columns in front of it. The denominations are 1,000 yuan, 3,000 yuan, 4,000 yuan and 10,000 yuan respectively.They were printed by Nan Jing Printing Works of the Huadong Post Administration Bureau,the printing process is of typography. In the course of the stamps' printing, due to the alteration of postage, stamps with the denomination of 4,000 yuan were no longer suitable to be used, so the Ministry informed the printing works to stop printing them. On June 9,1950, the R2 stamps with the pictures of Tian An Men (second edition) were officially issued. The values in set were 3, the denominations were 1,000 yuan ( purple-blue ), 3,000 yuan ( red-purple ) and 10,000 yuan ( reddish brown ) respectively. "4,ooo Yuan " stamps of blue colour were not officially issued, but because of loose care, several went to private possessions. The quantity is small but the value is fairly high.

On June 2, 1995, in '95 Stamps Auction Shanghai, one piece of R2 "4,000 Yuan" was sold at 24,500 RMB.
