This set of stamps was not issued during "the
Cultural Revolution". Its complete title is "Long
Life to the Great Victory of the Proletarian Cultural Revolution".
The abbreviated title is "the Great Victory of the Cultural
Revolution". In the stamp, Chairman Mao Zedong ,in grayish-blue
Mao suit, stood on the rostrum of Tian An Men and waved his
hand to the crowd. Lin Biao, holding "the Quotations of Chairman
Mao", stood behind him. On the Tian An Men Square below the
Rostrum, red banners were fluttering in the wind. Workers, farmers
and soliders held "the Quotations of Chairman Mao" in their
hands. On the bottom there were words of "Long Life to
the Great Victory of the Proletarian Cultural Revolution",
as the topic of this stamp. On the right printed the words of
"China People's Post", and "8 fen" as the
denomination. The size of the stamp is 60 * 40 mm, with the
gravure as the process.
None of any information about the design, the
printing process and the issue plan were ever revealed by the
publishing departmant. So it is still a puzzle till now why
this set of stamp wasn't issued at that time.
But about 10---20 stamps or so came from the Shi
Jia Zhuang Post Office in Hebei Province into the private collection.
Because of the so limited number, they were very precious.
On Novemer 21, 1997, on the auction during the
'97 Second Coins and Stamps Expo, one new stamp of "the
Great Victory of the Cultural Revolution " (with the printer's
name) was sold at 250,000 RMB. A four-block of this kind of
stamp was sold at 1,000,000 RMB.
